DIGITAL ART

Water swirls of color and movement create a meditative experience by gently captivating the mind and encouraging a state of focused relaxation.

My creative process begins with a quest to identify hidden patterns in nature that engage and awaken our innate sense of beauty in order to stimulate our ancestral connection with nature.  The infinite variety of patterns formed by bluegreen algae, pollen, or even small pieces of local vegetation are a constant source of inspiration for me. Whether I'm exploring water hazards on Scottsdale golf courses, pastoral ponds in Connecticut, or remote corners of Florida nature preserves, my goal is always the same: find the perfect pattern to photograph.

Once I've spotted a potential image from the water's edge, I don my high-waist waders and enter the water, careful not to disturb the surface tension. From there, I stay as still as possible, sometimes using a portable step stool for height, and capture a series of up to 150 shots, experimenting with different angles, depths of field, and sections of the algae.

After reviewing the results, I use painstaking precision to digitally color the images, bringing out the full vibrancy and beauty of the patterns I've captured.
